How to make a text QR code
- Type or paste your message.
- Pick colors and a dot style in the Design tab.
- Download a PNG or SVG.
- Scan it with your phone to check the text appears correctly.
Tips for a code that scans first time
- Keep it short. Every extra character adds modules and makes the code denser.
- Phones show plain text with a copy or search option; they only open it as a link if it is a web address.
Text QR code questions
How much text can a QR code hold?
The QR standard allows up to about 2,900 bytes, but codes that full are hard to scan. ScanMeFox limits content to 1,500 bytes so the code stays reliable.
Does a text QR code need internet to scan?
No. The text is decoded on the phone, so it works offline.
Static QR codes from ScanMeFox are free, have no watermark and don't expire. Learn more about ScanMeFox or read how we handle your privacy.
