A Wi-Fi QR code lets guests join your network by pointing their phone camera at it. It contains the network name, security type and password, so nobody has to type them.

How to make a Wi-Fi QR code

  1. Enter the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, including capital letters.
  2. Choose the security type. Most home and office routers use WPA/WPA2.
  3. Enter the Wi-Fi password, or choose NOPASS for an open network.
  4. Download the code, print it and put it where guests can see it.

Tips for a code that scans first time

  • If you change your Wi-Fi password, make a new code. The old one stops working.
  • A separate guest network keeps visitors off your main network.
  • Only mark the network as hidden if your router doesn't broadcast its name.

Wi-Fi QR code questions

Which phones can scan a Wi-Fi QR code?

iPhones on iOS 11 or later and most Android phones can join a network straight from the camera app. On older Android phones, Google Lens reads the code.

Is my Wi-Fi password safe with ScanMeFox?

The code is made in your browser and the password isn't sent to ScanMeFox. Anyone who scans the printed code can read the password, so display it only where you would share it anyway.

Static QR codes from ScanMeFox are free, have no watermark and don't expire. Learn more about ScanMeFox or read how we handle your privacy.
